WorkAbility 1, operated under the direction of the State Department of Education, has been implemented since 1982 through the SELPA office. This program serves students 16 years and older with an IEP identified disability. This program is provided to coordinate a work-training model of  work experience in the private sector for unskilled youth needing employability skills. Students are provided with a variety of vocational preparation opportunities including:

  • Classroom Instruction
  • Student workshops/training programs emphasizing pre-employment job seeking skills, job behaviors and employment opportunities
  • Work experience credit
  • WorkAbility stipend paid training
  • DR referral for vocational support services
  • Paid work experience and on-the-job training (OJT) by cooperating community agencies such as Department of Rehabilitation (DR) and WIA agencies
