IDEA Funds
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is the primary federal program that authorizes state and local aid for special education and related services for children with disabilities. Some of this aid is by grants.
Two grants in particular are the IDEA Part B Section 611 Entitlement and the IDEA Part B Section 619 Preschool Program. Part B Section 611 is for children with disabilities ages three through 21. Part B Section 619 is for preschool children with disabilities ages three, four, and five.
In addition to services to all students with disabilities, a proportionate share of these two grants may be required for qualifying private school expenditures, and 15% of these funds may be used (or must be used) for voluntary (or required) coordinated early intervening services (CEIS).
